Chairman of the Board of Trustees of the American Institute in Taiwan (AIT), Ambassador Raymond Burghardt gave an interview to Voice of American in Washington, D.C., in which he spoke about the cross-strait relationship, US-Taiwan relationship, and in general presented what the U.S. government’s view towards Taiwan is. It’s a bit long, but worth watching.
AIT is officially a non-profit organization based in Arlington, Virginia and serves as the liaison body with Taiwan’s de facto embassy in the U.S., the Taipei Economic and Cultural Representative Office. AIT offices in Taipei and Kaohsiung provide services normally provided by a U.S. diplomatic mission and are staffed with U.S. State Department employees. The current AIT Director in Taipei (de facto American ambassador) is Mr. Kin Moy. Other members of the AIT Board include Joseph R. Donovan Jr., Daivd G. Brown, and Douglas Spelman.
